Mexican Hogfish

The Mexican Hogfish is a vibrant wrasse found in rocky and coral reef environments across the eastern Pacific. Distinctive red and yellow markings give it away, with the head typically brighter than the body. These wrasses forage along the bottom, using their protruding snout to root through sand and rubble in search of small invertebrates and crustaceans—behaviour typical of the genus Bodianus. Divers encounter them most often at depths between 5 and 30 metres, where they are relatively common and approachable.
