Mediterranean Moray

The Mediterranean moray is a stocky eel with a blunt head, yellow-spotted dark body, and teeth that remain visible even with the mouth closed. It grows to around 1.5 m and inhabits rocky crevices and reef holes from the shallows down to about 60 m, throughout Mediterranean waters and into the Atlantic. Mostly nocturnal, it hunts small fish and crustaceans by ambush, with a reputation for aggression when disturbed—approach slowly and never corner one in its lair.
