Longsnout Seahorse

The Longsnout Seahorse is instantly recognisable by its elongated snout and upright posture, anchoring itself to seagrass and mangroves with its prehensile tail. Found in shallow coastal waters of the western Atlantic, this small seahorse blends in among dense vegetation where it hunts tiny crustaceans and plankton. Males incubate eggs in a brood pouch—a rare trait among fish—making seahorses unusual and vulnerable to collection for the aquarium trade and traditional medicine.
