Lemon Shark

The lemon shark is a medium-sized requiem shark, growing to around 3.4 m, with a flattened head and yellowish-brown body that gives the species its name. Found in warm coastal waters of the western Atlantic and eastern Pacific, it hunts small fish and crustaceans in shallow bays and estuaries, often in small schools. Lemon sharks are ovoviviparous and show strong maternal investment, returning to their nursery grounds year after year—a trait that has made them invaluable for shark research. The species is listed as vulnerable, facing pressure from overfishing and habitat loss.
