Jewel Anemone

Jewel anemones are small, brilliantly coloured anemones that carpet rocky reefs and kelp forest floors across temperate Atlantic waters. Rarely exceeding 2 cm in diameter, they come in vivid shades of green, orange, red, pink, and purple, often with contrasting tentacle tips. These colonial animals prefer cooler, deeper waters—typically 10–30 metres—where they remain largely sedentary, feeding on plankton and organic debris. Look for dense clusters clinging to overhangs and crevices; their jewel-like appearance and abundance make them a distinctive feature of European rocky habitats.
