The humpback snapper is a stocky lutjanid with a distinctly arched back and blunt head profile that becomes more pronounced with age. Typically found on coral reefs and rocky outcrops at depths between 20 and 200 metres, it ranges across the Indo-Pacific. Coloration is generally reddish or brownish, often with darker markings. These snappers are solitary or found in small groups, feeding on fish and crustaceans, and they can reach substantial sizes, making them a target for both commercial and recreational fishing.
