Harbour Porpoise

The harbour porpoise is a small, stocky cetacean that inhabits coastal waters of the North Atlantic, North Pacific, and adjacent seas, typically staying in depths under 200 m. Its dark grey back and lighter belly, combined with a blunt, rounded head and small triangular dorsal fin, make it unmistakable in northern temperate regions. Unlike dolphins, harbour porpoises are quiet animals and often go unnoticed, though they feed on small fish and squid throughout the day, diving repeatedly in patterns that reveal their presence.
