The Gulf Wobbegong is a small, cryptic carpet shark found in shallow coastal waters of tropical Australia. Its flattened body and mottled brown colouration provide effective camouflage against sandy and rocky bottoms, where it hunts at night for small fish and crustaceans. Divers are most likely to spot one resting motionless on the seabed during the day—approach slowly and watch for the characteristic fringe of sensory barbels around its mouth.
