Grey Triggerfish

The grey triggerfish is a robust, somewhat flattened member of the triggerfish family, recognizable by its sturdy build and the characteristic locking spine on its dorsal fin—a defence mechanism that gives the group its name. These fish are found in rocky and coral reef habitats across tropical and subtropical waters, typically at depths between 5 and 40 metres. Grey triggerfishes are opportunistic feeders with powerful jaws and teeth suited to crushing hard-shelled prey such as sea urchins, molluscs, and crustaceans. They are generally solitary or found in pairs, and can be territorial, particularly during breeding.
