The gray angelfish is a large, silvery pomacanthid with a distinctive dark edge to its dorsal and anal fins, found throughout the tropical western Atlantic. It inhabits coral and rocky reefs from shallow waters down to around 80 metres, where it feeds on sponges, tunicates, and other sessile invertebrates. A solitary or paired species, it moves deliberately through reef crevices, blending into the backdrop with its subdued coloration.
