The giant damselfish is a robust, dark-bodied member of the damselfish family found in rocky reefs and kelp forests of the eastern Pacific. It's notably aggressive for its size, vigorously defending feeding territories and algae gardens against much larger fish. This species has a stocky build and tends to hover close to shelter, darting out to feed on small organisms and algae before retreating quickly.
