Galápagos Fur Seal

The Galápagos Fur Seal is found only around the Galápagos archipelago, where it inhabits rocky coves and lava-tube caves in shallow waters. Dark grey to brown and stocky, with a blunt face and large forward-facing eyes, it is smaller and more agile than the Galápagos Sea Lion. These seals are most active at dawn and dusk, hauling out in shaded grottos to avoid the equatorial sun. Divers may spot them resting in caves or hunting small fish and squid in cooler waters, typically at depths below 30 metres.
