The dusky butterflyfish reaches about 20 cm and inhabits coral and rocky reef environments across Indo-Pacific waters. Its dark body and pale snout distinguish it from related butterflyfish species. These fish are typically found in pairs or small groups, feeding on coral polyps and small invertebrates. They tolerate brackish conditions and adapt well to reef slopes and lagoon edges at modest depths.
