Curled Octopus

The Curled Octopus is a small, solitary cephalopod found on rocky and sandy bottoms across the north-east Atlantic and Mediterranean, typically at 6–60 metres. It reaches only about 25 cm in length and is recognisable by its relatively uniform reddish-brown colouration and the single row of suckers on each arm—fewer and more widely spaced than in the common octopus. When threatened or at rest, it curls its arms tightly, a habit that gives the species its name. It hunts small crustaceans and molluscs at night, sheltering in crevices and burrows during the day.
