The crevalle jack is a powerful, streamlined predator with a silvery body, dark upper side, and a distinctive black spot on each gill cover. These fish typically hunt in schools, moving fast through reefs and open water in search of smaller fish and squid. Crevalle jacks are found in tropical and warm temperate waters worldwide and are common at depths of 5–80 metres. Divers often encounter them cruising near current-swept drop-offs or reef edges, where their explosive feeding strikes can be impressive to witness.
