The Cortez angelfish is a member of the pomacanthid family found in the eastern Pacific, particularly around the Gulf of California. It displays the characteristic deep, compressed body and pointed snout typical of Pomacanthus species, with striking vertical banding that distinguishes it from related angelfish. This marine resident favours rocky reefs and coral-rich areas where it feeds on sponges and tunicates, often seen singly or in pairs.
