Paratrachichthys trailli

Rank
Species

The Common Roughy is a deep-water fish with a robust, compressed body and rough, spiny scales that give the species its name. Found in deep waters beyond recreational dive limits, it inhabits continental slopes and abyssal regions. The species is rarely encountered by divers, as it typically occurs at depths well below 200 metres, where light does not penetrate and temperatures are near freezing.
