Common Cuttlefish

The common cuttlefish is a master of camouflage and intelligence, capable of changing colour and texture in milliseconds to vanish against rocks or sand. Found in temperate and subtropical waters from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, it typically hunts at depths between 6 and 60 metres, though it may venture deeper. Watch for its large, forward-facing eyes and flattened body; when disturbed, it releases a dark ink cloud while jetting away. Cuttlefish are short-lived but remarkable problem-solvers—they've been observed learning by watching other individuals and remembering feeding locations.
