This small damselfish reaches about 11 cm and lives in obligate association with sea anemones on coral reefs across the Indo-Pacific. Orange with white bands edged in black, it is instantly recognisable and abundant in shallow reef environments from 1 to 40 m. The fish gains protection from the anemone's tentacles while the anemone benefits from the fish's presence; pairs or small groups defend their host anemone vigorously against intruders.
