The Clarion angelfish is a pomacanthid endemic to the waters around Isla Clarión, off Mexico's Pacific coast. This striking member of the angelfish family inhabits rocky reefs and deep drop-offs, typically found between 20 and 60 metres. Adults are notably territorial and feed on sponges and tunicates; they are rarely seen away from their chosen reef site. Their restricted range and depth preference make encounters uncommon, even for divers visiting the region.
