The Camouflage Grouper blends seamlessly into rocky and coral reef structures across Indo-Pacific waters, its mottled brown and grey patterning shifting subtly with mood and substrate. A hefty predator that hunts small fish and crustaceans from crevices and overhangs, it is generally solitary and wary of divers. Look for it in deeper reef zones, typically below 20 metres, where it stations itself near shelter.
