Bumphead Parrotfish

The bumphead parrotfish is a hefty, blunt-headed grazer found on coral reefs across the Indo-Pacific. It lives up to its name: a pronounced bony hump dominates its forehead, especially in large males. These fish feed by scraping algae and coral polyps from reef surfaces, leaving distinctive white bite marks and contributing significantly to sand production on tropical reefs. They are often seen in small schools, moving methodically across the reef face during daylight hours.
