Bobbit Worm

The Bobbit worm is a large marine polychaete that lurks in burrows on the seafloor, ambushing passing prey with lightning-fast strikes. Named after a famous crime incident, this predator can reach over a metre in length and uses five antenna-like tentacles to sense vibrations in the water. Divers occasionally spot the worm's front end protruding from its tube in sandy or muddy substrates at depths from a few metres down to several hundred metres, though encounters are rare.
