The bluestriped goatfish is a compact bottom-feeder, reaching about 40 cm, distinguished by its characteristic blue stripes running along the body. It inhabits sandy and muddy bottoms in shallow to moderate depths across Indo-Pacific reefs and coastal areas. Like other goatfish, it uses its pair of chin barbels to probe the seafloor for small crustaceans and invertebrates, often seen in small groups or pairs methodically working the sand. The blue striping becomes more vivid during feeding and social interactions.
