The blacksaddle goatfish reaches about 50 cm and sports a distinctive dark saddle marking across the back—a striking feature that sets it apart from other goatfish species. Like all goatfish, it uses its paired sensory barbels beneath the chin to probe sand and rubble for small crustaceans and other invertebrates. Found across Indo-Pacific reefs and adjacent sandy areas, this species is a common sight for divers exploring shallow to moderate depths.
