Bigeye Tuna

Bigeye tuna are streamlined, powerful swimmers found in open water and deeper pelagic zones worldwide. They are notably larger than skipjack tuna, with the characteristic oversized eyes that give them their name—an adaptation for hunting in dim, deeper waters where they often descend beyond the reach of recreational diving. Schools may be encountered near seamounts and drop-offs, though they are generally fast-moving and challenging to approach closely.
