The banded sea krait is unmistakable: a slender snake with bold black-and-blue bands running across its body. Found in shallow coastal waters and coral reefs throughout the Indo-Pacific, it hunts small fish and eels in crevices, using its flattened paddle tail for swimming. Highly venomous, it is docile around divers and poses little threat if left undisturbed. Air-breathing, it must surface regularly despite spending most of its life at sea.
