Banded Pipefish

The banded pipefish is a slender, cryptic resident of coral and seagrass habitats across Indo-Pacific reefs. Its body is marked with distinctive dark bands that break up its outline, making it easy to miss among branching corals and dense vegetation. These tiny fish move slowly and deliberately through their habitat, feeding on minute crustaceans and other small prey. They are generally solitary or found in pairs, and like other pipefishes, the males carry eggs in a brood pouch until the young are ready to fend for themselves.
