The banded butterflyfish is a small, boldly striped member of the butterflyfish family, recognisable by its vertical black and white bands and yellow dorsal fin. Found on coral reefs in shallow to moderate depths, it typically moves in pairs or small groups, picking at coral polyps and small invertebrates. These fish are relatively common across tropical Atlantic reefs and are hardy in captivity, making them familiar to many divers.
