Atlantic Tarpon are massive, silver-sided fish that grow to around 2.5 m and inhabit coastal waters, estuaries, and sometimes freshwater rivers. Their large cycloid scales and upturned mouth are unmistakable. These powerful swimmers are found in tropical and subtropical Atlantic waters and are prized by sport anglers for their dramatic leaps when hooked. The species is classified as vulnerable, reflecting pressure from fishing and habitat loss.
